Christian Media Network: "Another Jesus, Another Spirit, Another Gospel"

Prophecy for Sale by Craig Portwood

Galatians 1:6-9

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."

How do we as believers tell when a religious movement can no longer be considered truly Christian? For Bible believers, the Scriptures become the final judge. The Apostle Paul laid out the central issues to the church of Corinth in 2nd Corinthians 11:4. Here Paul gives three tests: do they preach another Jesus? are they motivated by another spirit? and do they present a different gospel?

"Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me 2. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 13 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."

Another Jesus.

Does the bible teach us of an angry Jesus or a bitter Jesus? Do we read of a crude and vulgar Jesus? A search of the scriptures show no such spirit in the person of Christ. James Lloyd however teaches of a bitter angry Jesus. He emulates a crude and vulgar Jesus, and teaches his disciples to do likewise. How many times have the regular listeners to the Apocalypse Chronicles and other Christian media programs heard the hosts speaking of excrement (the word "crap" is a favorite expression among the flock) ? Name calling and other forms of demonization of all with whom he disagrees is a favorite tactic of James Lloyd and his followers. But how does a man who maintains that all his utterances are a manifestation of the Holy Spirit working in him justify this? He does so by taking the scriptures out of context, and arriving at conclusions based on the logic of the flesh. An example:

We are told in Matthew 21:12

"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,"

We have another account of this incident recorded in Mark 11:15:

"And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;"

This is used, along with Christ's discourse to the Pharisees in Matthew Chapter 23 and Luke Chapter 11, as justification for the prideful angry statements which are the "attitude" which James maintains is a manifestation of his spirit. That it is a manifestation of his spirit is not in question, but what spirit does this represent? Consider now the word of God.

Ecclesiastes 7:9 "Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools".

Also consider for a moment, if Christ really was angry (and we have no scripture which says he was), what were the circumstances? Did he ever use vile speech to communicate? If there was any anger in him at all, it was only seen when he came face to face with MERCHANTS SELLING THEIR WARES IN THE TEMPLE! One needs only read a Christian Media newspaper, a copy of his newsletter, or listen to the Christian Media network for 30 minutes to realize that this is the pursuit in which James Lloyd is himself engaged, and for which Christian Media is known!

Further, the examples of Christ enumerating the deeds of the Pharisees in Matthew 23 and Luke 11 were prompted by the HYPOCRISY of the Pharisees, in which the hypocritical example of James Lloyd making merchandise of the flock of God is denounced. (Read 2nd Peter Chapter 2:1-3)

Another Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Ephesians 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Examine the fruit of Christian media and James Lloyd. The first of these fruits of the spirit, love, is denounced regularly on his broadcast the Apocalypse Chronicles. This is defended on the basis of ONE SCRIPTURE (Romans 9:13 which refers to Malachi 1:3 "..Jacob have I loved, Esau have I hated...") which he takes out of context to justify his obvious hatred of those who oppose him. He has stated on the Apocalypse Chronicles Show that "When people ask me where my love is, I tell them the truth ran over it. Ha Ha Ha..." Compare this doctrine with the scripture given us by God through the Apostle Paul recorded in 1st Corinthians 13:1-2:

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (i.e. love) I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing "

It seems as though God is under the impression that truth cannot run over love, but that instead a lack of love can overcome whatever truth you may have! It seems as though one of them is going to have to set the other straight on the matter in the day of judgment. I am betting on God to win that one.

As far as the fruit of joy is concerned, the only joy apparent in his broadcasts comes when he is badmouthing people, calling them "liars, criminals, and thieves" and the like, which gives him great mirth as he laughs at his own jokes. He also loves to laugh about abortion, homosexuals in position of authority, and is especially amused when he discusses the ex Attorney General Janet Reno when he calls her "that baby burning lesbian, heh heh heh..." Not that I disagree with his assessment of her, but as for laughing at the abominations committed in the midst of this nation, I recall what the writer with the inkhorn was told in the account we have in Ezekiel Chapter 9:4-6

"And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. 5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: 6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which [were] before the house." What did the Holy Spirit say about those who found humor in the abominations of Israel? Were they pleasing to our God who changeth not?

There is to take place another promised "marking" in these end days. This event which stands in contrast to the "Marking" of the Devils own (Revelation 13) is described as a sealing before the persecution of the saints which we see in the book of Revelation, chapter 7. One can only wonder how much longer God's people will be allowed to wallow in the spirit of the flesh before God "gives them over to a reprobate mind." Such merriment upon the occasion of wickedness is not so much as spoken of as becoming a believer in the biblical record.

Now the question remains, is this merry spirit which comes over James Lloyd when speaking of the abominations done in the midst of Babylon, occurring because he finds humor in babies being slain, or is it just an example of "foolish talking"? Is he just "jesting" , or are these just "vain words"? Consider the following scripture, and compare the fruit of the spirit of James Lloyd with those which are named the "works of the flesh."

Ephesians 5: 3-7 tell us: But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

While we are examining fruit, where do we see the examples of peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, or temperance in any of the communications that issue forth from his mouth? Certainly, if the work he does is of God there should be at least one fruit of the spirit the scriptures list as proof of Godliness evident shouldn't there?

A careful examination of the fruits of James Lloyd show contention instead of peace, a desire to get even with his perceived enemies in the place of longsuffering, heavy handedness in lieu of gentleness, no sign of goodness, faith in himself instead of God, and no sign of meekness or temperance whatsoever. There is though plenty of evidence to support the opposite conclusion. A quickness to speak evil, the pride of life, boasting in himself, and an evil imagination which he cares not to restrain.

Another Gospel

The Gospel of the kingdom has always been preached by the apostles, God's ministers, and our Savior himself, based upon the plain truth of the Son of God. Christ, meek and humble in his example, came as a servant, never exalted himself, never railed, never threatened others with violence, never treated others spitefully or in condemnation. He suffered the death of the cross, even though he did not deserve to die. He sacrificed himself for the sake of the brethren. He never boasted of himself or justified sin in his disciples, nor did he lie to cover up their misdeeds.

The gospel taught at Christian media is of ANOTHER SORT. Consider for a moment a very telling episode involving a disciple of James Lloyd who engaged in an assault against an unarmed man. Instead of reproving his behavior or offering Godly council, James Lloyd actually defended his network host RICK WALTERS of the "Acts One Eight" Show on the air, first by claiming that the victim had threatened Walters mother (which is unfounded, hence a lie) and then by stating that "there are still some REAL MEN around", intimating that Walters was justified in his violent actions.

This "gospel of violence" stands in direct opposition to "The gospel of peace" we are told about in the book of Romans, chapter 10, verse 15, and Ephesians Chapter 6, verse 15. We also have no example of a violent Christ, nor do we see the Son of God preaching a gospel of self justification. When a corrupt tree has a root of bitterness, planted in the toxic soil of greed, and fertilized with lies, it cannot bear anything but poison fruit.

We also evidence of the spirit of pride in the example of this self described "Prophecy Figure", exalting himself (Claiming that God is doing the exalting, even though God seems to be doing it through James' own boasting), and promoting his supposed "gift" for the sake of financial gain. Examine for instance promotional literature written by James Lloyd himself, promoting his latest "rare public appearance." "James Lloyd is a unique phenomena..." he claims, and he goes on to say that he predicted a "terrorist attack on New York City by an Islamic sect" although he conveniently "forgot" to mention that it didn't involve the World Trade Center, but was instead part of his false prophecy of 1998 in which he predicted the complete destruction of the city!

His "flyer" also goes on to say "At this free speaking event, he will make numerous predictions of forthcoming events of earthshaking importance" (and offer numerous tape sets for sale as he makes more earthshaking merchandise of the hapless sheep). I checked the earthquake report for April 5th, 2003 and no shaking of the earth was reported in Oregon on that date.

Another comical quote from his shameless promotion stated "Because some have chosen to be enemies of the truth, we have not included our various websites on this newsletter..." Is this how we have been told to propagate the "gospel"? Christ did not tell us to hide the truth but told us to place our light on where it can be seen. What exactly is James ashamed of, that he is afraid to publish his websites in his newsletter? The answer to that question will be provided before this report is concluded.

Luke 11:33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

The truth is that, while James Lloyd does have a lot to hide, Jesus Christ does not. We are told of Christ and his return in Matthew 24:26 "Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not." This hidden gospel of Christian media is not for the whole of mankind as is the gospel of Christ, but only for those elite few who can be conned by a self deceived "phenomena" who when summed together with his wares, makes a "PROFIT OF THE LORD." Far from being a unique phenomena, he is sadly an all too common phenomena, a common huckster who runs the same old con game with a new twist.

How does James Lloyd refute the overwhelming evidence which illustrates the obvious discrepancy between his words and deeds and those of the faithful which have gone before us? He simply calls those who expose his deeds liars. Since he cannot counter the plain truth, he attacks the messenger! In his desperation he lies, he attacks, he slanders, uses innuendo and all manner of deceitful manipulation to avoid accountability. Then he makes even more claims as to his anointing and tries with craft to change the subject. This he does without any conclusive evidence or proof for the charges he levels against those who have the courage to bare witness to the facts. These assertions will be supported with hard evidence, using his own statements and publications in an upcoming chapter entitled "The Hidden Things of Dishonesty".

If he were to be held to the same standard which he applies to others and were examined on the basis of his theology and not on the emotional appeals to his followers, they would flee from him. There is no repentance on the part of James Lloyd, nor on the part of his disciples. This willful refusal to submit to the authority of Christ, combined with allowing oneself to be subject to the thought patterns which justify their behavior are deadly to the Christian, And the results of this anti-Christian mindset, provides more fruit for inspection.

There will be many more examinations of these scriptures relating to another Jesus, another Gospel, and another Spirit as the report progresses, but this should give you a clear idea of how the teaching, behavior, and spirit of James Lloyd is in direct contrast to that given by the word of God.The Christian must always be on guard against cult-like figures who would control their thinking and life-patterns. Our challenge is to bring “every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2nd Corinthians 10:5), and to none other. Beware to whom you give your ear.

Christ said in John 10:8 "All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them."
